What About Steel Plates?

A damaged steel plate can affect clutch clearance and engagement. This is one reason transmission rebuilding isn't simply a matter of installing a new set of friction plates and putting everything back together.
Bushings and Bearings
Bushings and bearings require careful inspection. If they're worn beyond specification, reusing them can contribute to excessive movement, alignment problems, and premature wear in related components.

What About Hard Parts?
This is where the answer becomes less absolute, as not every hard part needs to be replaced.
Drums, shafts, planetary components, pumps, valve bodies, sprags, and other hard parts should be inspected and measured.
Some can be reused if they're within specification. Others may be candidates for rebuilding or machining. And some simply need to be replaced.
